THE  GATHERING  PAGEANT:  Meeting  on Thursday 1st August at 8.00pm. in the Parochial Hall.  Lots of help will be needed on the day and preparing for the various events, so anyone with an interest in taking part is welcome.

 

Youth 2000 Summer Festival: Cistercian College, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, Thursday 15th—Sunday 18th August 2013. For  young people aged 16-35, an opportunity not to be missed to experience the Catholic faith and meet many new people. This festival has been nicknamed “Holy Oxygen” with over 1000 young people from all corners of Ireland attending last year. The festival is donation only. Convent  of  Mercy  School  Photography Exhibition:  Class photographs from the Convent of Mercy school are sought for photography exhibition which will take place in the Friary during National Heritage Week from 17 to 25 August.  Please contact Joan Flanagan: 086 1511269;

 

Croagh Patrick. Today is Reek Sunday  & Mass is celebrated on the summit every half hour from 8:00am., with the final Mass at 2:00pm.  Confessions will be heard continuously from 7:30am. – 2.00pm. 

 

Recycling of Elecrical items & batteries.  Recycling day for old electrical items and batteries in Ballyhaunis. Scouts meeting:A meeting with Mr. Noel Leahy, the Provincial Support Officer with Scouting Ireland will take place this coming Wednesday 31stJuly in the Family Resource Centre Offices at the Friary House, St. Mary’s Abbey to discuss the possibility of re-establishing the Scouts in Ballyhaunis. This morning time meeting (9.30am) is open to anyone who would like to find out more information and who would be interested in helping in the future.

 

Healing  Retreat: John Pridmore and St. Patrick’s Community will lead a retreat in Ards Friary, Creeslough, Co. Croagh  Patrick - Where  the  Year  of  Faith  &  THE  Gathering  meet:  Throughout the country and throughout the world the Church is celebrating the Year of Faith, as indeed throughout the country The Gathering is being celebrated.  In Croagh Patrick,  the two have come together, with local church and civil authorities as well as a band of volunteers from the local community coming together to celebrate Reek Week 2013 - 22nd to 28th July.  The traditional Reek Sunday pilgrimage has been extended to a week long celebration, with Mass being celebrated on the summit each day during the week.  Those who register to climb the mountain on pilgrimage from Monday – Saturday will be able to avail of a specially commissioned Certificate of Completion.  Pilgrims will also receive a pocket-sized prayer card containing the traditional Stations of the Reek and a specially composed Pilgrim’s Prayer.  The church on the summit of Croagh Patrick is open daily during July and August, giving pilgrims the opportunity to come in, say a prayer and light a candle.  On Reek Sunday Mass will be celebrated on the summit every half hour from 8:00am., with the final Mass at 2:00pm.  Confessions will be heard continuously from 7:30am. – 2.00pm. 

 

Thanks:  Michael Goulding wishes to thank all who supported the coffee morning and cake sale in aid of the children’s pilgrimage to Lourdes.  The amount raised to date is €1,000.

 

Tooreen  Gathering  weekend  Friday 26th - Sunday 28th July:  Traditional concert on Friday night in Tooreen Hall starting at 8.30pm.  Novelty hurling games in the new pitch on Saturday 27th & inter-club Tug-o-war in the Hall followed by dance.  The weekend will draw to a close on Sunday 28th with a family sports day on the old hurling pitch.

 

Mayo  Cancer  Support  Association:  A Support Group meeting for people living with or surviving cancer will take place at Rock Rose House, Castlebar on Thursday 25th July at 7.00pm.  More information from 094 9038407.

CEMETERY  MASS:  The annual Cemetery Mass will be celebrated this Sunday 14th July at 3.00pm. in the cemetery.  The cemetery committee would like to thank everyone for their generous donations to the annual cemetery maintenance collection.

THE  GATHERING: One of the unique aspects of Ballyhaunis is the amount of nationalities that are represented in our community.  This, along with our Christian heritage, is something worth celebrating.  Plans are currently under way to celebrate our heritage and diversity on Sunday August 25th on the annual Abbey Pattern Day.  Events will commence at Holywell where tradition tells us that St. Patrick baptised the first Christians, and will end at the Friary grounds.  Lots of help will be needed, on the day and preparing for the various events.  All who are interested in becoming involved are invited to a meeting in the Parochial Hall on Thursday night next, 18th July at 8.00pm.

COFFEE  MORNING  &  CAKE  SALE:  Sunday 14th July after both Masses in Paddy Phillips' Bar, Main St.  Funds raised will aid sick children and their families to go on pilgrimage to Lourdes with a group that Michael Goulding, Doctor's Road has travelled with for the past 9 years.

BALLYHAUNIS GAAthering: Due to the overwhelming response to the appeal for GAA memorabilia etc. the planned exhibition and re-union to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Club’s 1988 county intermediate victory will now go ahead on Saturday 31st August.  Items for inclusion in the exhibition are still being accepted.  Contact Seamus Caulfield, Johnny Biesty or Tommy Caulfield or phone 9631400.  Further details to follow shortly.

BALLYHAUNIS  TIDY  TOWNS;  Meeting in the Parochial Hall on Wednesday 10th July at 8.00pm.  New members welcome.

BLOOD  DONOR  CLINIC:  The clinic for the Balyhaunis area will be held in the Connacht GAA Offices, Cloonacurry, Bekan on Thursday 11th July from 5.00 - 8.30pm.

 

Abbey  Pattern:  This year’s Pattern will be held on the last Sunday of August (25th).  The Annual General Meeting of the Committee appointed the following officers for this year’s Pattern:  Martin Walshe - Chairperson, Brendan Donnellan - Treasurer,  Stephen Grogan - Secretary.   Anyone interested in helping to prepare this year’s Pattern should contact any of the above or leave a message for them at the Family Resource Centre on 9630031.  Letters seeking sponsorship will be sent out shortly. 

 

CONCERN thanks the collectors and those who contributed to their recent collection which amounted to €1,165.

Summer  RUAH  Retreat: Elation Ministries have organised a  retreat for young people (18-35 yrs) in Knock from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd June.  Elation Ministries are a group of young people from all over Ireland who have come together to share the good news of the gospel through music and song.  Fr. Michael Duignan, Chaplain, St. Angela’s College, Sligo will lead the retreat.
