Scoil Íosa is a co-educational Primary school under the patronage of the Catholic Archbishop of Tuam, catering for children resident in the Ballyhaunis area. It was set up in 2001 with the amalgamation of St Joseph’s Convent National School and St Mary’s Boy’s National School. Since its inception the school has operated on two separate sites. The Junior School operates from the Convent N.S. on Bridge and the Senior School from the Boy’s School in Abbeyquarter. The school is scheduled to move to a modern purpose built complex on the Abbeyquarter site in July 2012. Building works are currently ongoing on the school building under the stewardship of Kilcawley Construction, Sligo.

At present,  Scoil Íosa has 297 pupils enrolled. The school has a great tradition of successful participation in Sports, Music and the Arts.
