INTERNATIONAL  EUCHARISTIC  CONGRESS  2012

The Eucharistic Congress is an international gathering aimed at promoting an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the church.  It usually takes place every four years, and is hosted by a different country each time around.   The first Congress was held in Lille, France, in 1881; the last time Ireland hosted it was 80 years ago in 1932.

The Eucharistic Congress 2012 takes place from June 10th to 17th.  Most of the events take place in the RDS, Dublin, with the closing ceremony, the Statio Orbis, taking place on Sunday 17th June in Croke Park.  It offers an opportunity to reflect on what it means to celebrate and live the Eucharist, and thousands will gather in celebration and song.  Each Diocese and parish in Ireland has been invited to send representatives to this Eucharist.

The programme for the Congress includes liturgical and cultural events, catechesis and testimonies, discussions and workshops, with each day built around a different theme.  These include ‘Communion in marriage and family’, ‘Reconciliation in our communion’, and ‘Communion in suffering and in healing’.

Special programmes have been prepared for children, young people and families.  The youth programme, entitled ‘Go! Be Church!’ is aimed at those aged from 17 to 25, and includes drama, catechesis, music, prayer, art and social activities in the Chiara Luce Youth Space in the RDS.   A limited number of tickets are also available for Statio Orbis, Closing Ceremony at Croke Park on 17 June in the Upper Cusack stand and Upper Hogan stand.

The following options remain available on www.iec2012.ie <http://www.iec2012.ie>  until 4 June: Full 7 day programme in RDS from 10-16 June:  €105. Any 3 consecutive day programme in RDS from 10-16 June:  €70. Single day ticket for any day at RDS (excluding Final Mass):  €35.
